I’m a sad, but fortunately woke man.
Jesus. Fucking. Christ.
And a Hornet for the trouble:

Good. Maybe you can tell me.
I’m too old for this shit.

Aware of, and sympatetic to, social issues.

Was the word “educated” too exclusionary or something?

“ Urban Dictionary defines “woke” as being aware, and “knowing what’s going on in the community.” It also mentions its specific ties to racism and social injustice.”

If this is the article you’re talking about, I still have no idea what that means

Let’s just stop there.

It’s too elitist. But seriously, I think “woke” carries a connotation of having been blind to the realities of one’s surroundings for a long time, or refusing to see those realities. Perhaps it’s the urban version of “Wake up, sheeple!” As the old proverb says, “There are none so blind as those who refuse to see.”

This is a SAFE space, dammit.

But usually the assumption is that “anyone who doesn’t agree with me is ‘unwoke’”— at least that’s the fallout of any and every political and moral debate in this country.

Just when I start to think that HamNo is the most nutbar person I’ve ever read, I head over to Jezebel.

I skimmed and couldn’t find anything particularly interesting. The staff is all voting for Hillary. Shocker, they’re also all based in NY or CA.
In other news, the West Virginia Journal Of Cousin Kissin’ and Critter Shootin’ is unanimously voting for Trump.

Here’s the top comment. I am amazed this isn’t satire.

what’s amazing to you?

To claim an election as hers. That anyone should shut up about their feelings about an election. The whole point of an election is to poll everyone so that everyone’s voice is heard.
The irony of claiming an election as your own is that that is the exact thing people are supposedly fighting against: a group of people “owning” an election. It’s such an absurd irony I am amazed it isn’t satire. To the point of being slightly skeptical of it’s authenticity.

it must be very uncomfortable for someone else to claim an an election as theirs and say that your voice isn’t worth being heard.

Probably even more ignorant than anything trump has said today.

Yes. People claiming an election as their own is uncomfortable. That is why I am against people doing it. Elections are for every one. Not one group or another.

I think it basically is saying you are aware of the many social issues that plague our society, as opposed to being unwoke, where you don’t recognize the many injustices and discriminations that occur around you and just assume that is just “how things are”.
An example of wokeness would be realizing black people have been socioeconomically hamstrung in america due to legislation and discrimination that may not specifically target black people, but just happens to negatively affect an astoundingly high percentage of black people, or realizing that as a white person there are situations and issues you will never experience because you aren’t a black person, and acknowledging that and trying to affect positive change.
Unwoke people are the type of people saying trump is good because he will bring back the jobs, regardless of the other things he may do to harm minorities (those things won’t effect me, so I won’t believe they affect other people)

I think her point is that she is going to be negatively affected by trump, while the average white male was going to be unaffected by either candidate.
She is kinda cray though, I don’t recognize a lot of the new jez commenters nowadays.

It’s definitely a weird article, I mean people can choose the lesser of two weevils while also wishing they had a more compelling choice.

You’re being charitable to the point of misrepresenting Hachi’s position. She gives no reasons at all. Just that she is tired of even listening to a group of people and claiming the election as her own. No where in the comment does it say anything about white males being unaffected.

It’s an unspoken fact.
